I always find great joy being able to go into my various folders to work on photographs I composed over the years I marked for processing; this certainly being one of them.

I shot this back in May of 2024 while visiting a good friend from my college years, as per his invite.

“Vivace Avenue Of The Boulders”

Vivace Avenue Of The Boulders: copyright Angelo Marcialis Image Location-Prospect, OR

This stop was not planned as we were heading towards our hotel to check in after capturing various images at Crater Lake National Park from dawn to the golden hour after sunrise.

This landscape, I later found out was known as, “Avenue Of The Boulders” and/or “Prospect Scenic Viewpoint”.

And, one can see why it was so aptly named. Boulders abound, creating such a joyful sound as the rushing waters of spring flowed past over and around them.

What follows are my notes from my first upload of this area: “Aria For Mountain And Gorge”.

“On our way to Roseburg after photographing at Crater Lake National Park, Mill Creek Waterfall and a state park located in the Rogue River Gorge (which featured the Wild and Scenic Rogue River), we came upon this beautiful Oregon vista.

Needless to say, as is often the case, it is expected that there will be many a spontaneous stop between planned locations to shoot. That just makes these excursions all the more exhilarating and enjoyable!

This composition was created from a bridge in Prospect, OR. off of OR 62.

This is known as “Avenue of the Boulders”, and/or “Prospect Scenic Viewpoint”.

The mountain you are looking at is Mt. McLoughlin. My friend informed me that he once hiked to the summit of it, and as is the tradition there, tapped the peak with his left hand.

Mount McLoughlin is a dormant steep-sided stratovolcano, or composite volcano, in the Cascade Range of southern Oregon and within the United States Sky Lakes Wilderness. It is one of the volcanic peaks in the Cascade Volcanic Arc, within the High Cascades sector. It last erupted 9,000 years ago, with an elevation of 9,493.

As is the case in most instances, I am so glad that we pulled over to enjoy this most glorious sight!”
